Social Psychology Concepts

 1. Conformity

A person may change his assessment and principles to suit the society or group, due to real pressure or imagined pressure.

Real pressure is the individual is affected by the traditions of society due to his presence and exposure to pressures from members of society

Imagined pressure occurs due to social norms and traditions, whether the individual is inside or outside the group.

There are three types of conformity

 1.1 Internalization

Internalization is the belief that the people in the group are the best ones in morals, dealings, and behaviors.

 1.2. Identification

Identification is the individual’s retention of his own beliefs and behaviors regardless of the approval of the group.

For example, a member of the group may be asked to give false testimony to release a member of the group who caused the killing of someone.

So, identification is that the individual tells the truth and is not affected by the group's pressure

 1.3 Compliance

Compliance is the individual’s keenness to conform to the majority of society or group to gain their affection and benevolence.

The motive or goal is to obtain a social reward or praise.

 2. Obedience

It consists of the individual carrying out the orders of the group leader without hesitation to remain in the group.

The basic difference between obedience and compliance is that obedience is orders issued by the leader to follow the customs and traditions of society, while compliance is the individual’s own keenness to comply with the customs of society without a previous request or order, out of his desire to gain the love and trust of society.

 3. Self-concept.

It is the individual's understanding of his true self and respect and appreciation for his behaviors and actions.

In other words, the individual's self is more important than others Therefore, the individual is not affected by the decisions of others or their strange looks because he is confident in himself and his behavior.

Some individuals may believe that their self or morals are bad, or their behavior is good, or their personality is weak, and so on The self-concept may contain multiple forms, including:

 a. Self-esteem

it is appreciation and respect for oneself, that the individual’s actions are correct, and self-confidence in his decisions

 b. Ideal self

It is the ideal self in its behavior, morals, and dealings with others, which every individual wishes to possess
